Midlands Branch

Welcome to the home page of Women in Property for the Midlands Branch.

I am very pleased to be taking up the Chairmanship for this Branch in 2008/2009.

Membership
This is a very active and friendly branch with a membership base which is drawn from all areas of the property market including architects, surveyors, developers, solicitors, town planners, engineers, marketing professionals etc. We very much welcome new members. If you are thinking about membership then please feel free to contact me or any one of the branch committee members who would be pleased to talk to you about the benefits of membership and introduce you to fellow members at one of our branch events.

Events
We aim to arrange a minimum of an event a month in the Midlands which include visits to new developments, talks from speakers on property and construction industry issues and networking lunch and evening socials. I encourage you to visit these web-pages often to find out the latest.

Satellite Branches

Roadshows
It is an important aim of this Association to promote and support women in their careers in the property sector and encourage young women into areas of work which traditionally have been male dominated. In support of this aim members are active in schools careers events, talking to young people about their careers and opportunities in the property sector. If you would like to take part please make contact with Carmen Guerra, our Roadshow Coordinator.

Charity
The Midlands Branch has a designated charity – The Women’s Hospital in Birmingham. £1 of every one of our tickets sold is donated to the Hospital and a cheque is given at the end of each year. Last year we raised over £

Monique is an Associate within the Valuation Team at GVA Grimley in Birmingham who advise Corporates on acquisitions and mergers and provides UK institutions with full fund portfolio valuations, as well as UK and international banks with secured lending valuations and advice. Monique has a special interest in licensed property having spent 10 years with Marston's Taverns (WDB).

Carmen works for Atkins Design Solutions in Birmingham. She provides structural advice for the design, restoration and refurbishment of buildings of all kinds with particular expertise in airport, education, residential and industrial buildings.

Wendy Goldthorp
Awards Co-Ordinator

Wendy is an Associate with Clarke Willmott specialising in both contentious and non-contentious construction and engineering work. Wendy acts for a wide range of clients, including developers, funders, contractors, professional consultants, public bodies and private companies. She is currently completing her MSc in Construction Law and Dispute Resoution part-time at King's College, London.

Sandy Munroe is an Associate in the Commercial Property Department of Bevan Brittan. Sandy has been a Women in Property Committee member since 2002. She is currently undertaking commercial property work for RSL's and NHS Trusts involving site acqusitions and disposals.

Narvinder has over 7 years experience in the public and private sector, dealing with a range of blue chip clients. Narvinder deals with major housing developments, retail and commercial projects, Ministry of Defence and mixed use schemes. Narvinder advises clients on planning legislation, submits planning applications and appeals, represents clients at planning committees and advises clients on how to maximise the value of land.

Alex Lowe

Alex-Jayne is a commercial property lawyer at BPE with particular expertise in acting for developers of residential or mixed use sites in acquisitions, site assembly, statutory agreements and subsequent plot disposals.
