Northern Branch
As Chair of the Northern Branch of Women in Property for 2008/ 2009 I am glad to be taking on the role on the back of such a strong year of activity in the North West, celebrating the organisation’s 20th year. The year started well with another successful annual dinner at the Midland Hotel attended by members and guests, where we were entertained with tales from the world of political journalism by guest speaker Julia Hartley-Brewer, Political Editor of the Sunday Express.
I am particularly keen to highlight the role of the committee of volunteers that run the Northern branch of Women in Property. They are vital to the management of the region’s events and in ensuring the region continues to be a strong presence within the national organisation. I would like to thank a number of longstanding committee members who have moved on to pastures new. Gill Robinson, Jean Godbert, Lizzie Spring and Chris Lawrenson have all left the committee this year after many years of involvement with the organisation, having served in a variety of roles, including that of National Chair. We would like to thank them for all of their efforts and support over the years and wish them the best for the future. As ever with change comes opportunity and we are therefore also glad to welcome a number of new members to the committee and I look forward to attending their events across the year.
I would also like to congratulate Amanda Harney of Sense for a successful year in office as Chair last year and thank her for her continuing support and assistance as I take on that role.
As individuals, people join Women in Property for different reasons, networking for business contacts, peer support and mentoring, or looking to help and support younger women entering the industry. Having set up Whale Marketing 5 years ago, a Marketing and Design consultancy serving a variety of companies within the property sector, a major priority for myself was generating new business contacts. However to my surprise on joining Women in Property I also found people willing to provide help and advice in any number of business situations and also people who became friends. I am also proud to be celebrating the fifth birthday of Whale Marketing this year, proof of the effectiveness of networking and the platform which organisations such as Women in Property provide.
I hope you will continue to support Women in Property and I look forward to seeing you at this years events. Hannah Whale
