South Wales Satellite Branch
Welcome to the South Wales branch of Women in Property!
It is a great honour to be carrying the baton passed on from Jane Boyes as I take on the role as chair of the South Wales branch committee for 2008/2009. I have enjoyed my involvement working with a small but supportive team over the past few years, with our committee working hard to organise events and to create a positive networking environment that is not daunting, but is inclusive and friendly for industry novices, and seasoned industry pros alike - men and all.
During 2007 we have seen a surge in new members and renewal of membership in response to the variety of social and CPD events that we have held. In the same spirit, we have put together yet more exciting events for 2008 including some of our regulars such as the annual golf day and more site tours, so there’s plenty of opportunity for looking the part in hi-viz kit or dinning in style!
We recently held a successful event in Swansea and will endeavour to promote the association to cover other cities within South Wales and further into Mid-Wales. If you have any ideas for events please do not hesitate to contact our committee members to add to our events list.
We are very proud to be taking part in the WIP Student Awards this year, promoting the various professions in property and construction including, property development, architecture, surveying and law, business management and marketing, and working with local universities and RICS to showcase the students’ work. The regional winner will be announced at a South Wales Award ceremony in May 2008 and will go forward for the ‘best of the best’ national award night in London in September.
Ultimately, the Association is a national networking forum for women in the property and construction sectors with the mission of enhancing professional and personal growth for the members as a multi-disciplinary professional association.
We hope that our events bring the benefits of meeting with peers and other professionals, that we can share our views with and also learn from each other in a relaxed atmosphere. This social behaviour is natural to most and we can enhance this further with the mentoring initiative that WIP members share with partners such as the UKRC. Please let our committee members know if you would like to learn more about the mentoring programme and we are working proactively to raise the profile of women in construction and make a real difference to career opportunities in the industry.
All events, except AGM, are open to non–members, in anticipation of gaining new members. Men are welcome to attend the events as guests.
If you would like to become a member of our branch, please contact our Membership Secretary, Catrin Rees.
We always welcome a helping hand and sponsorship for future events. For Corporate sponsorship, please contact Jane Boyes. Yun Yun Herbert
