Title: Academy School Site Visit in Bristol

In 2008 the South West Branch are planning a series of events reflecting “The Changing Face” of our region.

In the first of the series, Cowlin Construction invited members and their guests on a guided tour of the nearly completed £22m Merchants’ Academy in Withywood, south Bristol, followed by a buffet lunch and an opportunity to network with fellow members and their guests.

Merchants’ Academy is a new and different type of school for south Bristol. This state-of-the-art secondary school, is constructed in 7 pavilions around a central courtyard and will cater for 1,150 pupils aged between 11 and 18. It is independent of local authority control and is co-sponsored by the Society of Merchant Venturers and the University of Bristol.

A full complement of 30 members and guests were kitted out in full PPE and shown round the site by Cowlin's Project Manager, Construction Manager and Architect. The school is due for completion in June 2008.

The Bristol Evening Post sent a photographer along and an article was published the following day.
