Title: Student Awards Scheme - Central Scotland winner announced
On May the 20th, the Central Scotland Branch held a very successful celebratory event to announce the regional winner of the Student Awards Scheme 2008. Universities across Central Scotland put forward their top rising stars and at 29, Royal Exchange Square the six finalist students attended the event to display their course work and meet with a number of WIP members and guests.
Our two sponsors for the event were Dunfermline Building Society and Knight Frank. Peter Weanie, the Board Director of Dunfermline Building Society was one of the judging panel for the scheme and on the night he relayed how impressed he was with the calibre of the students'
presentations on the judging day.
Drew Oswald, Senior Partner of Knight Frank, spoke of how he recently employed Fiona Forrest, last year's national winner. He said that Fiona's interview with Knight Frank surpassed all other entries.
We were delighted to have Fiona present on the night and she spoke of how the Awards have helped her immeasurably as her confidence has grown from strength to strength.
The winner was announced on the night by Maria Francke, our National Chair. Joanne Bell, who is studying building surveying at Glasgow Caledonian University, was delighted to be declared the regional winner and picked up her trophy and cheque for 500 pounds. She is now looking forward to attending the National Awards "Best of the Best" dinner at Claridges in London, where the National winner will be announced.
