Title: Devon & Cornwall Satellite New Members Evening hailed a great success
Women in Property Devon & Cornwall Satellite Branch hosted its first ever New Members’ Night on Wednesday 5th April 2006 at The Refectory, the stylish Cocktail Bar attached to the Plymouth Gin Distillery in the historic Barbican district of the city.
Over 30 women from South and West Devon and Cornwall took the opportunity to find out more about Women in Property and network over canapés and jugs of Plymouth Fruit Cup. Those attending covered the full gamut of construction and property professions including architecture, surveying, engineering, legal, financial and facilities management.
Carol Bell, Satellite Branch Chairman, gave a short presentation on the history of Women in Property both nationally and locally, highlighting the varied events programme for the coming year which, as well as site visits and monthly property-themed networking lunches with speakers, also includes the Bicton Horse Trials, a Golf Day, Racing at Newton Abbot and a cocktail party to coincide with the British Fireworks Championships. Carol also noted that a second New Members Evening would be held in Exeter in September and invited those present to spread the word to their colleagues.
A business Card Draw was held and the lucky winner was Tracey Flanagan of Nash & Co. Solicitors who received a presentation box of the local tipple, with two highball cocktail glasses.
The Satellite Branch Events Secretaries, Yvette Benn and Kate Hamilton, both attended, Yvette having organised the event, circulating amongst the guests to answer questions about WIP. The evening generated a great deal of interest, evidenced by a rapidly-diminishing pile of membership application forms.
